Create an event
Walk through the four steps of the New event wizard: event type, details, message channel and template, then review and create.
Every invitation, contribution and check-in in Shereko belongs to an event. Creating one takes about two minutes and costs nothing.
Start the wizard
Tap New event on the Dashboard or on the Events page. The wizard has four steps, shown at the top: Event type, Details, Message and Review. Use Back at any time to change an earlier answer.
Step 1: Event type
Choose the option that best describes your event: Wedding, Nikkah, Send-off, Kitchen party, Celebration, Birthday, Graduation, Corporate or Other. The wizard moves on as soon as you pick one.
The type decides which invitation templates and card designs Shereko suggests, so choose the closest match. If nothing fits, choose Other; you will give the event its own name in the next step.
Step 2: Details
Fill in what guests will see on their invitation:
- Event name (required), for example "Neema & Ali's Wedding".
- Date (required) and Time. Check AM or PM beside the time.
- Venue (required). Write it clearly so guests know where to go.
- Host names and Dress code (optional). Many templates and card designs use them, so filling them in now saves time later.
Step 3: Message
First choose how guests will receive their invitation. The price per guest is shown on each option.
| Option | What happens |
|---|---|
| Card with read receipts and RSVP buttons. Recommended. | |
| WhatsApp + SMS fallback | WhatsApp first; an SMS goes only if WhatsApp isn't delivered. Needs money in your wallet. |
| WhatsApp + SMS (both) | Every guest gets both. Costs more. |
| SMS only | A plain SMS to every guest. |
| No channel | Manage your guest list only, no sending. Free. |
Then prepare the message:
- For WhatsApp, pick an Invitation template under Shereko templates or Your templates. Under Fill in the blanks, Shereko fills each blank from your event details; change any field or leave it as it is. Not ready? Choose Choose later, after the event is created.
- For SMS, write the SMS text your guests will receive.
- If you chose both, prepare 1 · SMS message first, then 2 · WhatsApp template.
See WhatsApp templates to create your own wording.
Step 4: Review and create
Check the summary of your event and channel. If you want to collect money now, tap Turn on contributions now (optional) and set:
- Contribution goal (TZS)
- Payout phone number and, optionally, the Mobile money provider
- Send card after payment, which sends the invitation card automatically when a guest pays, with optional Tiers that send a different card design above a set amount
You can also skip this and turn contributions on later from the event page. See Contributions.
Tap Create Event. Shereko opens your new event page.
After you create the event
New events start as a Draft: only you can see them. Tap Publish when your details are correct to make the public pages (contribution and gift links) live. From the event page you can now:
- add guests in the Guests tab (Add guests)
- design the invitation in the Card tab (Design your card)
- change details, publish or unpublish, or Delete event in the Settings tab
FAQ
Can I change the date or venue after creating the event?
Yes. Open the event, go to the Settings tab, edit the field and tap Save. Invitations sent after the change use the new details; cards already delivered are not updated.
Why can't I tap Continue?
Each step needs its required fields: an event type in step 1, and a name, date and venue in step 2. If you chose an SMS channel, step 3 also needs the SMS text. The hint beside the button tells you what is missing.
Why is "WhatsApp + SMS fallback" locked?
The automatic SMS retry needs funds reserved in your wallet. Top up your wallet and the option unlocks.
How do I delete an event?
Open the event, go to Settings, tap Delete event and type DELETE to confirm. This removes the guest list, cards, RSVPs and message history, and guests' links stop working. It can't be undone.
