Terms of Service

Last updated: 8 April 2026

1. Acceptance of these terms

By creating an account or using Shereko ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. Shereko is operated from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and these terms are governed by Tanzanian law.

2. What Shereko does

Shereko is a digital platform that helps event organizers plan and run weddings (harusi), parties, and other celebrations. Features include:

  • Sending WhatsApp invitations and reminders to guests
  • Tracking RSVPs and attendance
  • Collecting contributions (michango) and managing gift registries (zawadi)
  • Selling tickets and processing payments via mobile money and card
  • Generating digital invitation cards and event memory pages

3. Eligibility & accounts

You must be at least 18 years old to create an organizer account. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep your phone number and login details secure. You are responsible for everything that happens under your account.

You may not use Shereko on behalf of someone else without their permission, or create accounts using fake or misleading information.

4. Acceptable use

You agree NOT to:

  • Send spam, advertising, or promotional content unrelated to a personal event
  • Upload guest phone numbers without those guests' knowledge or consent
  • Use Shereko for illegal activities, fraud, scams, or money laundering
  • Send messages that are hateful, harassing, threatening, or sexually explicit
  • Try to break, reverse-engineer, or overload the Service
  • Resell access to Shereko or use it as a bulk-messaging tool for non-event purposes
  • Impersonate other people or organizations

Shereko's WhatsApp number is provided through the Meta WhatsApp Business Platform. Misusing it (sending spam, ignoring opt-outs) can get the Shereko number suspended for everyone, so we enforce these rules strictly. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate them.

5. Message templates and moderation

Shereko uses pre-approved WhatsApp message templates. Custom templates created by organizers must be approved by Meta before they can be used. Shereko may also review templates for flagged words (e.g. spam, advertising language) and reject templates that don't fit a personal-event context.

We are not responsible for delays in Meta's template approval process, which typically takes 24–72 hours.

6. Payments, fees, and refunds

Shereko charges service fees on contributions, ticket sales, and other payment flows. The exact fees are shown to you before you confirm any transaction. Mobile money providers (PawaPay) and card processors (Stripe) charge their own fees on top, also shown upfront.

Payouts: Funds collected for an organizer (contributions, ticket sales, gift payments) are paid out to the organizer's mobile money account on a schedule defined in their dashboard, less Shereko and provider fees.

Refunds: Refunds for tickets or contributions are at the discretion of the event organizer. Shereko facilitates the payment but does not act as a guarantor for the event taking place. If an event is cancelled, contact the organizer first; Shereko can assist in disputes but does not unilaterally reverse payments.

7. Guest data

When you upload a guest list, you confirm that you have the right to contact those people for the purposes of your event. You are responsible for honoring opt-out requests — if a guest replies STOP, you must not message them again on Shereko.

See our Privacy Policy for how guest data is stored and protected.

8. Content you upload

You retain ownership of any content you upload to Shereko (event photos, descriptions, card designs). By uploading, you grant Shereko a non-exclusive license to store, process, and display that content as needed to provide the Service to you and your guests.

You must not upload content you don't own, content that infringes copyright, or content that's unlawful, defamatory, or offensive.

9. Service availability

We work hard to keep Shereko running smoothly, but we don't guarantee 100% uptime. The Service may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance, upgrades, or due to issues with third-party providers (Meta, PawaPay, Stripe, hosting providers).

We are not liable for delays, failed message deliveries, or payment processing issues caused by third parties beyond our reasonable control.

10. Termination

You can stop using Shereko at any time by deleting your account from the dashboard. Deleting your account removes your events, guest lists, and personal data, except records we are legally required to retain (e.g. financial records for 7 years).

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms, abuse the Service, or create legal/safety risks for Shereko or its users.

11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

Shereko is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Shereko's total liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to the fees you paid Shereko in the 3 months preceding the claim.

We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages — including lost profits, lost data, or reputational harm — arising from your use of the Service.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notification at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use Shereko after the effective date means you accept the updated terms.

13. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the United Republic of Tanzania. Any disputes that can't be resolved informally will be settled in the courts of Dar es Salaam.
